So where did the name "Floating Dogs" come from ?
As it turns out, I was/am a Peter Gabriel fan starting with his work in the English band Genesis and then subsequently as he started off as a solo artist. He ended up with a solo career and one of his albums was the soundtrack to the movie "Birdy" starring younger versions of both Matthew Modine and Nicolas Cage. I've always been a sucker for moody rather dark electronic music which P.G. used to write. Anways, there's a tune on that album called "Floating Dogs", for some reason that name stuck with me as well as the song. Maybe someday, if clearances allow I can use it as a loop on this site. In the meantime, if you are curious, go buy the record.
What is the site for ?
I want to use this space to document and write about my other passions which includes music, photograpy, surfing and my film project "Deeper Shade of Surf", a documentary I 've been working on about early black surfers....
I'll try to be consistent about writing in my blog. Like a lot of other folks, I feel the need to be able to speak publicly about all sorts of things. I'll try and keep my musings to topics I have some knowledge of. I hope to comment on how technology does and does not help the creative community. Now and then, a bit about politics, though there are plenty of other sites where people spend a lot more time than me researching politics and commenting, surprisingly, they even think along the same lines I do, but hell, sometimes I won't be able to resist.
Finally, bear with me, I am teaching myself web design via Dreamweaver. Hopefully over time this site will improve...
For now, here are links I find interesting:
Friends and other folks I know who have sites:
Tracy Collins - Old room mate, dear friend of 22 yearsphotographer in Brooklyn, check out his work. His current project is documenting buildings in the Atlantic yards area of Brooklyn and trying to help bring some sanity to the development being proposed there.
Dan Carew - Another friend, runs a one man show in Hong Kong called Kanda River. If you have IT needs over there, Dan may be your man
Web Radio Stations:
Other sites:
Raw Story - sort of a loudish left (politically speaking) site, but their reporting is pretty decent though I suspect it is preaching to the choir
Media Matters: A great (for me at least) site which monitors the media
